Greetings American Literature Students!
I am looking forward to a lively exploration of American literature from 1870 to 2000. Our journey will include poetry, short stories, novels, and plays and our authors will range from American icons like Henry James, Mark Twain, William Faulkner and Toni Morrison to a wide range of poets and dramatists from across America's cultural spectrum.
Although I will be using everything from web links to photocopy packets to keep our costs down, the following texts are required for the course. I encourage you to explore buying from a web site other than the bookstore (links to Amazon are provided for each text: click on the name of the publisher) and/or used. You can find these texts at 50% or more off by doing so!
Your success in the course depends upon having the correct edition of the texts. This is especially true of the Twain and Chopin texts, both of which are scholarly editions that include extensive notes and other resources you will need to successfully complete papers, quizzes, and verbal exams.
If you are struggling with a financial issue that makes buying these scholarly editions more difficult for you, please contact me privately and I will work to secure some assistance for you.
To reiterate--you must have the correct versions of the Twain and Chopin texts in order to succeed in the class!
Finally, if you are working on staggering your purchases over the semester, I have listed the texts in the order that we will use them in the course.
